Maybe
She felt my absence
The Fig Tree in the midst of the village
Had shed its leaves…
Maybe, it thought it was no more relevant
The stone bench had showed up cracks.
The temple-steps and the banks of the village tank
Seemed eagerly waiting for me…
There was no trace of the creaking
Of the rope-swing laid on to the guava tree
Perhaps they might have thought that I won’t return,
Some close and dear
Had deserted the place.
Now, the village stands
A dilapidated testimony
To my history.
Oh! I shouldn’t have gone there.
It would, at least, have remained lively in my memories.
