Mom is attending to her kitchen chore.
Sitting in a chair and watching her
The baby is playing with her toys.

“You have to study well.
You should become a doctor
When you grow up. OK?”
Said mother.
“Um.”
“Or, you want to slog before computer
Like your dad?”
“Um”
“I came first in studies
When I was a child, you know.
I was also awarded a big prize by the school.
You should also learn quickly your ABCs
And a lot lot more. OK?”
“Um”
“When you grow up
You should drive a car.
You should achieve some great things.
And earn a big name for you.
Understand?”
“Um”
Mom went on with her inventory doing her chores.
Suddenly the baby asked,
“When I grow up,
I grow tall, won’t I mommy?”
“Sure, baby! You will grow
As tall as me,” said mom
Dreaming of her daughter growing as tall as her
And occupying a chair in a famous hospital
With stethoscope hanging by her neck.
“Mom!
Then, my hands will also be long. Isn’t it?
I can then happily open this almirah
And take many chocolates, biscuits, laddus and all!”
Said baby with a glint in her eye
Looking longingly at the almirah.

అమ్మ వంటింట్లో పని చేసుకుంటోంది.
పాప తన బొమ్మలతో కుర్చీలో కూచుంది అమ్మని చూస్తూ.
బాగా చదువుకుంటావా నాన్నా?
పెద్దయ్యాక పెద్ద డాక్టర్ వి కావాలి అన్నది అమ్మ పాపతో.
ఊ..
లేకపోతే నాన్నలాగా ఆఫీసుకు వెళ్ళి కంప్యూటర్ ముందు పని చేస్తావా?
ఊ…
అమ్మ చిన్నప్పుడు బాగా చదువుకుని ఫస్టు వచ్చింది.
అప్పుడు స్కూలు వాళ్ళు పెద్ద గిఫ్టు ఇచ్చారు తెలుసా?
నువ్వు కూడా ఏ బీ సీ లన్నీ నేర్చేసుకుని
ఇంకా ఇంకా బాగా చదూకోవాలి.
తెలిసిందా?
ఊ..
పెద్దయ్యాక కారు నడపాలి.
ఇంకా చాలా చాలా గొప్ప పనులు చెయ్యాలి.
బాగా పేరు తెచ్చుకోవాలి.
తెలిసిందా?
ఊ..
పని చేసుకుంటూ చెప్పుకుపోతోంది అమ్మ.
బెద్దయితే చాలా చాలా బొడుగు అవుతాను కదమ్మా?
అడిగింది పాప.
అవును రా. అమ్మంత పొడుగవుతావ్.
అన్నది అమ్మ
పాప తనంత అయ్యి స్టెతస్కోపు మెళ్ళో వేసుకుని
పెద్ద హాస్పిటల్లోని పెద్ద కుర్చీలో కూచుని ఉన్నట్టు ఊహిస్తూ.
అమ్మా!
అప్పుడూ నాకు చాలా చాలా బొడుగు చేతులు ఉంటాయి కదా!
అప్పుడు ఇతల అలమరా తెరిచి
చాలా చాలా
చాకొలెత్తులు, బిస్కెత్తులు, లడ్డూలు
అన్నీ తీసుకోవచ్చు!
అన్నది పాప
మెరుస్తున్న కళ్ళతో అల్మరా వంక చూస్తూ.
