Where is your Pa, shorty?”

They ask me everybody, Pa!

 

The other day

In pitch darkness

Police caught Ma by her hair

And abused her saying

‘You bitch,

When will your man return?”

Whenever my sib wails,

Ma asks,

“Did your Pa come to mind, my baby?”

And breaks down herself.

Leaning on to the tether

She breastfeeds him.

Then, Pa, I feel

If only you had come.

Pa, when you come home

Don’t come by our school.

Police stay put there

Playing cards.

Isn’t there a rifle in your bag?

Why do you, then,

Sneak in stealthily?

 

Tell me, what do you do in the forest?

Aren’t you afraid of bears and tigers?

Who will serve you food?

Is your mother there?

 

Ma insists that I go to bed

No sooner it gets dark.

But I love to sit awake for you.

Why don’t you tell her to eat something?

Ever since you had left

She eats whenever she likes

And sleeps when she can’t help.

But there hangs, always,

In the sling something for you to eat.

 

There was only one wound on your leg

When you came home earlier.

How come there is one more?

Pa! How can you go about

With these wounds?

What will happen if you are at home?

Promise! I will not tell anybody!

I feel like sleeping by you

Throwing my legs over!

Pa, I long to anoint your wound!

Won’t you stay?

 

Pa! What if you come every day?

When the whole village is asleep

Why don’t you come by the backyard in dark?

I shall leave the hasp of the door undone.

I won’t take a wink! Take my word!

I shall sit waiting for you.

I shall ask you something in secret… get me!

 

“Pa! When will you be back?”

మీ అయ్యేడే పొట్టిదానా?
అని అందరడుగుతుండ్రే.
గయ్యాల సిమ్మసీకట్ల
పోలీసోల్లు అమ్మజుట్టుపట్టి
నీ మొగుడెప్పుడొస్తుండే
లంజదానా?
అని తిట్టి తిట్టి పోయిండ్రు.

తమ్ముడేడ్చినప్పుడల్లా

‘అయ్యగుర్తొచ్చినాడ్రా’
అని ఏడుస్తదే అమ్మ.
ఆ గుంజకానుకుని
ఏడ్చుకుంటనే తమ్మునికి పాలిస్తది.
అయ్యా! అప్పుడు
నువ్వొస్తే బాగుండనిపిస్తదే!

నువ్వొచ్చేటప్పుడు అయ్యా
ఇస్కూలు కానుంచి రావొద్దు
పోలీసొల్లు ఆడనే
పత్తాలాడుకుంట కూసుంటరు
నీ సంచిల పిస్తోలుంటది గద!
మరి నువ్వెందుకు
భయపడుకుంటొస్తవే?

అడవిలేంచేస్తవే అయ్యా నువ్వు
పులులు ఎలగొడ్లు-భయం గాద్?
అన్నమెవలు పెడ్తరే నీకు
మీ అమ్మున్నాది!

సీకటి కాంగనే అమ్మ
పండుకొమ్మంటది

నాకేమో నీకోసం కూసోవాలన్పిస్తది
అమ్మకు జర బువ్వ తినమని సెప్పు
నువు పోయిన కానించి
తింటే తింటది
పంటె పంటది

ఉట్టి మీది బువ్వ ఊగుతనే వుంటది

మొన్నొచ్చినపుడు నీ కాలుకు
ఒకటే దెబ్బ ఉండెగద!
ఇంకో దెబ్బెట్ల తగిలిందే!
అయ్యా! నువ్వీ
దెబ్బలతోటెట్ల పోతవే!
ఇంట్లోనే ఉంటే ఏమైతది? నేనెవ్వరికీ చెప్ప!
నీమీద కాలేసి
పండుకోవాలన్పిస్తుందే అయ్య!
నీ పుండు మీద
మందు పెట్టాలన్పిస్తుంది అయ్య!
వుండవా! అయ్యా! నువు రోజొస్తె ఏమైతదే!
అందరు పండుకున్నంక
సీకట్ల సీకట్ల దిడ్డికాడంగ రారాదె!
గొళ్ళెం తీసి పెడ్త!
నిద్రపోను ఒట్టు!
