Clearing woods, bush and bramble
A field is made of fallow…
This parched thirsty glebe
Watches the skies above agape…
Greenhorns stagger
To drive the harnessed plough;

Seed broadcast like chalky patterns in the foreyard.
But when Time rages and skies go barren
Shoots wither in the seed and the land cracks dry.
When hungry kids are put to sleep
Grief spills over the brim of eyelids.

The earthen levee caves in;
Silt settles in the farm well;
The rope of the bucket snaps
And the pulley idles forever.

Corns grow on the feet;
Blisters rise in the hands;
The cart of life
Sinks in the mire of Anantavagu.

Well Desilted…
Inner lining Bulwarked
Silver anklets melt away …

Electric Pole is erected;
Electric Motor is fixed;
Cowshed becomes desolate;
The dextral ox of the yoke is foot-injured;
The nigh ox is sold to slaughter-house.
The pen is looted; but all bovine
Appear in Gajwel animal fair.

Tiled roof blows off;
Decrepit house leaks;
Kitchen room caves in
so does the household head.

No God comes to the rescue…
No propitiation brings in blessings …
Be it the milk poured in snake holes in the house;
Victuals given to Katta Maisamma under the Neem tree;
The lamb sacrificed to Village Goddess;
Or, the family God of Siddulagutta
Nobody comes to dry your tears.

The village tank breaches…
The rill runs dry…
Fissures show up in the “Summer-plot”

The Motor burns out…
Current bill soars …
Agriculture takes crop holiday.

The hard money loan not made good;
Lender reaps insults by
Public-auctioning utensils, and
Running away appropriating main doors…
Poor children!
They live out the hard times
Surviving trading blood for life.

Even when the “Vinegar Pot” was empty
I avowed not to sell my land.
But, when fate turns against you
State turns out to be a cancerous cell
And conspicuous on the “land of wells”
Manifests the tumor of real-estate.

వాకిట్ల ముగ్గులెక్క ఏసిన విత్తనం
ఆకాశం వొట్టిపోయి కాలం కన్నెర్ర చేస్తె
ఎండిన సెలక వాడిన మొలక
ఆకలిగొన్న బిడ్డల పక్కలేసుకుంటె
కనురెప్పల కట్టలు తెంచుకున్న దు:ఖం

కూలిన దరి
చేరిన పూడిక
తెగిన దందెడ
సాగని మోట

కాయలుగాచిన పాదం
బొబ్బలెక్కిన చేయి
అనంతాగులో దిగబడ్డ బతుకు బండి

తోడిన బాయి
కట్టిన రాతి తెట్టె
కరిగిన కాళ్ళ కడాలు

నిలిచిన కరెంటుపోలు
బిగించిన మోటారు
బావురుమన్న ఆవుల దొడ్డి
కాలుగర్రవడ్డ ఒలపటెద్దు
కోతకమ్మిన దాపటెద్దు
దొంగలు దోచిన దొడ్డి
గజ్వేల్ అంగడి ముంగిట్ల

లేసిన గూనపెంక
కురిసిన పాతకొంప
కూలిన వంటిల్లు
తెగిన పుస్తెలతాడు

ఇంట్ల మొలిచిన పుట్టల పోసిన పాలైనా
యాపచెట్టు కింద కట్టమైసమ్మకు పెట్టిన బోనమైనా
పోలేరమ్మకిచ్చిన యాటపిల్లైనా
చివరాఖరికి సిద్దులగుట్ట ఇష్టదైవమైనా
కనికరించకపాయె
కన్నీళ్ళు తుడవకపాయె

గండివడ్డ చెరువు
ఒట్టిపోయిన పర్రె
నెర్రెలు వడ్డ యాసంగిపంట పొలం

కాలిన మోటారు
పెరిగిన కరెంటు బిల్లు
పడావువడ్డ ఎవుసం

ఒంటగిన్నెల్ని, ఇంటితలుపుల్ని
నడిబజార్ల పెట్టి
పజీత పజీత చేసిన
అంజివాను అప్పు
గటుక మంచినీళ్ళు తాగి
ఆర్థిక మాంద్యం ‘అత్యవసరపు’ కత్తిమీద నెత్తురోడ్చి
కాలమెల్లదీసిన బిడ్డలు

కూరాడు కుండ ఎండిపోయినా
భూమి జాగలమ్మనని కువ్వారం వడ్తి
కలిసిరాని కాలానికి
దేశ కేంద్రకంలో మ్యుటేషన్
బాయిగడ్డమీద ఇకారంగ మొలిచిన
రియలెస్టేట్ రాచపుండు.
