చదునుగా విశాలంగా ఉన్న ఆ పర్వతాగ్రం మీద

 (అదెక్కడో సరిగ్గా తెలీదు గాని, గంధర్వలోకం అయిఉండొచ్చు)

ఆస్ట్రిచ్ లా తమ రెండు రెక్కలూ తెరచాపల్లా జాపుకుంటూ

ఇద్దరు ముచ్చటైన పిల్లలు

ఒక అక్కా, తమ్ముడూ

అనంతంగా పోటీపడుతూ పరిగెత్తుతున్నారు

అక్క అతన్ని మెడ్డాయించింది

అయినా వెనక్కి తిరిగిచూస్తూ పరిగెడుతోంది

ఎప్పుడూ తమ్ముడివంకే చూస్తూ, అతని మాటలు వింటూ

ఎందుకంటే, పాపం! అతనికి చూపులేదు.

గరుకుతోవైనా, మెత్తని నేల అయినా

ఒక్కలాగే అడుగులు వేసుకుంటూ సాగుతున్నాడు.

అతనికి తెలీదు పోటీలో ముందున్నాడో, వెనకున్నాడో!

AN ALLEGORY

On the wide level of a mountain’s head,
(I knew not where, but ’twas some faery place)
Their pinions, ostrich-like, for sails outspread,
Two lovely children run an endless race,
A sister and a brother!
This far outstript the other;
Yet ever runs she with reverted face,
And looks and listens for the boy behind:
For he, alas! is blind!
O’er rough and smooth with even step he passed,
And knows not whether he be first or last.
