నీళ్ళు ఎలా సంతోషంగా
ముందు కూజా ఆకారంలోకి ఒదిగిపోతాయో,
మరు నిమిషంలోనే మంచినీళ్ళ గ్లాసులా ఎలా
మారగలుగుతాయో ఆమె తన మనసుకి ప్రదర్శించింది;
ఆమెకి తెలుసు వేడి టీ కప్పులో పంచదారని
సాత్త్వికంగా కలిపినా, మోటుగా కలిపినా,
త్వరత్వరగాకలిపినా, నెమ్మదిగాకలిపినా
ఇష్టపూర్వకంగానే కరిగిపోతుందని;
ఒక టులిప్ దుంప ఎక్కడ పాతితే అక్కడే మొలిచి,
శ్రద్ధగా పెకలించి మరొక తోటలోకి తీసుకెళ్ళి పాతితే,
అక్కడకూడ అంత బాగానూ పెరిగి,
అభివృధ్ధిచెందుతుందనీ తెలుసు;
ఆమె అయిష్టంగా ఉన్న తనమనసుకి
నచ్చజెప్పడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తోంది:
పలుపుతాడుతో కట్టినట్టు
బాధాకరమైన ప్రేమకి కట్టుబడపోకుండా
మనిషి ఎప్పుడూ తన సహజస్థితికిరావడం
ఎలా సుగుణమో చెబుతోంది.
ఒక ఆకారం నుండి మరొకదానిలోకి,
ఎన్నిసార్లు మార్చినా,
పగులగొట్టినా, పొదువుకున్నా,
అలా రూపుదిద్దుకోగల మెత్తదనం
కలిగి ఉండడం మనకే మంచిదని.
ఆమె మరొకమాటకూడ అంది:
“దేన్నైనా సరిదిద్దవచ్చు” ననీ
“ఏదైనా సాధించవచ్చు” ననీ
ఎవరైనా నిర్లక్ష్యంగా అన్నప్పుడు
తనకి కోపంతో ఒళ్ళు సలసలా
మరిగిపోతున్నట్టుంటుందని.

Lessons

She demonstrates to her heart
how water gladly
takes the shape of a jug,
then almost instantly adapts to
he shape of a drinking glass.
She shows it how sugar willingly dissolves
stirred gently or roughly, quickly or
slowly into the warm cup of tea.
How a tulip bulb will grow exactly
where it is planted and if removed
with care to another garden,
continues to grow and flourish.
She explains
trying to convince her reluctant heart
how resilience can be a virtue
not to be tethered by painful love;
to be shaped and reshaped
the flexibility to be contained, scratched or
fenced might be good for us
she adds.
She feels it seeth with anger
when some one recklessly says:
“anything can be fixed”
“anything can be done”.
