పరుగెత్తు, పరుగెత్తు చలువ సెలయేరా!
వడివడిగ వడివడిగ కడలికడకు
మెచ్చుకుని కెరటాలు కౌగిలిస్తాయిలే!
ఈ ఏటితీరాన నా కాలిగురుతులు
కనుమరగులైపోవు నింక అనవరతము.
పరుగెత్తు నెమ్మదిగ పరుగెత్తు శాంతముగ
పసరు మైదానాలలో పిల్ల సెలయేరుగా
పచ్చికబయళ్ళలో పొరలు జీవన నదిగ
నీ నీటితీరాల నా కాలిగురుతులు
కనరావు కన రావు ఇంక అనవరతము.
ఇక్కడొక “ఆల్డరు” నిట్టూర్పు విడిచితే
అక్కడొక “ఆస్పెన్” విలవిలవణుకులే
అటు యిటు తిరుగాడు ఆ నల్ల తుమ్మెదా
ఝుమ్మనుచు పాడులే ఇంక అనవరతము.
వేవేల సూర్యులూ నీ మీద మెరిసితే
ఆ వేల చంద్రులూ తేలియాడేరులే
ఏ వేళ నీ చెంత నా కాలి గురుతులూ
కనబోము కనబోము ఇంక అనవరతము.

లార్డ్ టెన్నిసన్
ఆగష్టు 6, 1809 – అక్టోబరు 6, 1892
ఆల్ఫ్రెడ్ లార్డ్ టెన్నిసన్ విక్టోరియా మహరాణి ఏలికలో చాలాకాలం ఆస్థానకవి (Poet Laureate) గ ఉన్నాడు. అతని కవితలలో Charge of the Light Brigade అన్నది అతనికి అశేషమైన కీర్తి తెచ్చిపెట్టింది. అందులోని మాటలు కోట్స్ గా సాహిత్యం లో నిలిచిపోయేయి. అలాగే చారిత్రక విషయాలపై అతను రాసిన కవితలుగాక, ముఖ్యంగా టెన్నిసన్ అనగానే గుర్తుకు తెచ్చేవి Ulysses, In Memorium AHH, Crossing the Bar, Tears Tears Tears మొదలైన కవితలు.
ఈ కవిత తను పుట్టిపెరిగిన ఊరు Somersby లోని సెలయేటిపై తను తిరిగిరానని తెలిసి వెళుతున్నప్పుడు రాసిన అంకిత కవిత.

Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea,
Thy tribute wave deliver:
No more by thee my steps shall be,

Flow, softly flow, by lawn and lea,

Tennyson was a Poet Laureate during the reign of Queen Victoria and was famous for some of his short poems like “Charge of the Light Brigade” a historical poem of the battle at Balaclava during Crimean War ; his Virgilian lyric “Tears, Idle Tears” after his visit to Tintern Abbey, like William Wordsworth before him; his elegiac Poem “Crossing the Bar” apart from many poems based on historical themes, Ulysses and In Memorium AHH, to commemorate his friend, fellow poet and fellow student at Trinity College, Cambridge.
The above poem is a dedication to the brook in Somersby, Lincolnshire where he was born.
