471.  The absent are never without fault, nor the present without excuse.

 

           మరణించిన వారు తప్పులు చెయ్యని వారూ కాదు; బ్రతికున్న వారు ఏదో సాకు చెప్పలేని వారూ కాదు.

 

472. The ancients tell us what is best, but we must learn of the moderns what is fittest.

 

         పూర్వీకులు మనకి ఏది మంచిదో చెబుతారు; కానీ అన్నింటిలోకి ఏది యోగ్యమైనదో ఆధునికులనుండి నేర్చుకోవాలి.

 

473. The bell calls others to church, but itself never minds the sermon.

 

         చర్చి గంట అందరినీ హాజరు కమ్మని పిలుస్తుంది; తను మాత్రం అక్కడ చేసే ప్రబోధాన్ని పట్టించుకోదు.

 

474.  The bird that sits is easily shot.

 

          కదలకుండా కూచున్న పిట్టే, వేటగాడి గురికి చిక్కేది.

 

475.   The brave and the wise can both pity and excuse when cowards show no mercy.

 

           సాహసికులూ, జ్ఞానులూ జాలి చూపించి క్షమించగలరు. పిరికిపందలే కనికరం లేకుండా ప్రవర్తిస్తారు.

 

476.   The busy man has few idle visitors; to the boiling pot the flies come not.

 

           తీరిక లేకుండా పనిచేసే వాడి దగ్గరకు ఎప్పుడూ పని లేని సందర్శకులు రారు; మరుగుతున్న కుండ దగ్గరకు ఈగలు చేరమన్నా చేరవు.

 

477.    The cat in gloves catches no mice.

 

            చేజోళ్ళు తొడుక్కున్న పిల్లి, ఎలుకలను పట్టుకోలేదు.

 

478.    The creditors are superstitious sect, great observers of set days and times.

 

            అప్పులిచ్చే వాళ్లంత మూఢవిశ్వాసపు జాతి మరొకటి లేదు. వాళ్ళు కొన్ని రోజులు, కొన్ని సమయాలు ఖచ్చితంగా పాటిస్తారు.

 

479.     The cunning man steals a horse, the wise man lets him alone.

 

            మోసగాడు గుర్రాన్ని కాజేస్తే, తెలివైనవాడు, వాడి కర్మకి వాడిని వదిలేస్తాడు.

 

480.     The devil sweetens poison with honey.

 

              సైతాను తేనె కలిపి, విషాన్ని తీపి చేస్తాడు
