ముందు పొదుపు చేసి, తర్వాత దేనినైనా పొందడం మేలు, ముందు దుబారా చేసి తర్వాత ఏదీ పొందలేకపోయామని విచారించడం కన్నా.

చెప్పదలుచుకున్నది త్వరగా చెప్పి ఊరుకోవడం వివేకం; తెరిచి ఉన్న నోట్లోకే కదా ఈగలు దూరేది.

తక్కువ మాటాడు; ఎక్కువ పని చెయ్యి.

 

455. Speak with contempt for none, from slave to king; the meanest bee hath, and will use, a sting.

 

ఎవరినీ ఈసడిస్తూ మాటాడకు, అది రాజైనా, బానిసైనా.     హీనమనుకున్న తేనెటీగకూడా తన ముల్లుతో బాధించగలదు.

 

456. Strange! That man who has wit enough to write a satire, should have folly enough to publish it.

 

 ఆశ్చర్యం! వ్యంగ్యంగా రాయగల తెలివితేటలున్న రచయిత, దానిని ప్రచురించే తెలివి తక్కువ పని ఎలా చేశాడు!

 

457. Strange, that who lives by shifts, can seldom shift himself.

 

వింత! అందరినీ పై అంతస్థుకి తీసుకెళ్ళే (లిఫ్టులో పనిచేసే) వ్యక్తి, తన జీవితాన్ని పైకి తీసుకుపోలేడు.

 

458.    Strive to be the greatest man in your country, and you may be disappointed; strive to be the best, and you may succeed; he may well win the race that

             runs by himself.

 

         నీ దేశంలో అందరికంటే ఉత్తమమైన వాడిగా ఉండటానికి ప్రయత్నించు, నీకు నిరుత్సాహం ఎదురవుతుంది;

         అదే ఉత్తమమైన వాడిగా ఉండటానికి ప్రయత్నించు, నీకు సఫలత  లభిస్తుంది; ఒక్కడే పరిగెత్తుతున్న పోటీలో ఎప్పుడూ వాడిదే విజయం.

 

459. Success has ruined many a man.

 

సఫలత ఎందరి జీవితాల్నో నాశనం చేసింది.

 

460. Sudden power is apt to be insolent, sudden liberty saucy; that behaves best which has grown gradually.

 

అకస్మాత్తుగా లభించిన అధికారం, అహంకారానికీ, అకస్మాత్తుగా దొరికిన స్వాతంత్య్రం నిర్లక్ష్యానికీ సహజంగా దారితీస్తాయి.
