అదిగో, వరదనీటిమీది తాత్కాలిక వంతెనప్రక్కన

వేసవి తొలి గాలులకు వాళ్లజండా రెపరెపలాడుతూ ఎగిరింది; 

ఒకప్పుడు యుద్ధానికి సన్నద్ధులై రైతులు నిలబడిందిక్కడే

వాళ్ళు పేల్చిన తుపాకిగుండు ధ్వనే ప్రపంచమంతా మారుమోగింది.   

శత్రువేనాడో చప్పుడులేని నిద్రలోకి జారుకున్నాడు

గెలిచినవీరులూ అలాగే శాశ్వతంగా నిద్రిస్తున్నారు;

కాలప్రవాహం ఆ శిధిలమైన వంతెనను కొట్టుకుపోయింది

సముద్రము వైపు పారే నల్లని ఉప్పుటేరురూపంలో.

పచ్చని ఈ ఒడ్డున, నిలకడగా పారే సెలయేటి తీరాన

మనమీ రోజు ఈ స్మృతి ఫలకాన్ని నిలబెడుతున్నాం;

వాళ్ళు చేసిన త్యాగాలకు మరచిపోలేని గురుతుగా నిలిచేలా

మన తాతలే కాదు, మన పిల్లలు గతించిన తర్వాతకూడా  

వాళ్ళు చనిపోయినా, వాళ్ళపిల్లలు స్వతంత్రులుగా మనడానికి

ఏ స్ఫూర్తి వాళ్ళని ఆలా సాహసించడానికి పురికొల్పిందో

ఆ స్ఫూర్తే వాళ్ళకోసం మనమీనాడు నిలబెట్టిన ఈ చిహ్నం

చెక్కుచెదరకుండా నిలబెట్టమని కాలాన్నీ, ప్రకృతినీ వేడుకుందాం.

Concord  Fight

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
