దిగి వస్తున్నప్పుడు దారిలో తన మాజీ భర్త ఎదురయ్యాడు.
సంప్రదాయంగా ముణుకులు వంచి నమస్కరించి అడిగింది
“నూతన వధువుతో మీ జీవితం ఇప్పుడెలా ఉంది?” అని.

“నా భార్య చాలా తెలివిగా మాటాడుతుంది గాని,
నా మొదటి భార్య అలరించినట్టుగా అలరించలేదు.
అందంలో ఎవరూ ఎవరికీ తీసిపోరు,
కానీ ఉపయోగపడడంలో ఇద్దరికీ పోలిక లేదు.
నా భార్య నన్ను కలవడానికి వీధిలోనికి వస్తే
నా మాజీ భార్య ఎప్పుడూ అంతర గృహంలోంచి వచ్చేది.
నా నూత్న వధువు పట్టు బుటేదారు పనిలో మంచి నేర్పరి.
నా మాజీ భార్యకి సాదా సీదా కుట్టు పనిలో ప్రావీణ్యం ఉంది.
పట్టు బుటేదారు పనితో రోజుకి ఒక అంగుళం నేతపని చెయ్యొచ్చు
అదే సీదాసాదా కుట్టుపనితో ఐదు అడుగుల మేర నెయ్యవచ్చు.
ఆమెకున్న నైపుణ్యాన్ని నీ కుట్టుపనితో సరిపోల్చినపుడు
నా నూతన వధువు మాజీ భార్యకు సాటిరాదని తెలుస్తుంది.

Old and New

.

She went up the mountain to pluck wild herbs

She came down the mountain and met her former husband.

She knelt down and asked her former husband

“What do you find your new wife like?”

“My new wife, although her talk is clever,

Cannot charm me as my old wife could.

In beauty there is not much to choose,

But in usefulness they are not at all alike.

My new wife comes in from the road to meet me;

My old wife always came down from her tower.

My new wife is clever at embroidering silk;

My old wife was good at plain sewing.

Of silk embroidery one can do an inch a day;

Of plain sewing, more than five feet.

Putting her skills by the side of your sewing

I see that the new wife will not compare with the old.
