నిన్న రాత్రి
అలా పడుక్కుని ఆలోచిస్తున్నాను
నీరు దాహాన్ని తీర్చగలిగేదిగానూ
రొట్టి రాయిలాకాకుండా రొట్టిలా ఉండగలిగే
ప్రశాంతమైన చోటు ఏదైనా
ఈ మనసుకి సాధించగలనా అని.
నాకు ఒక్కటే సమాధానం దొరికింది
నేను పొరబడలేదనే అనుకుంటున్నాను:
ఇక్కడ
ఒంటరిగా, ఏకాకిగా
ఏ మినహాయింపులూ లేకుండా
ఏ ఒక్కడూ ఏదీ సాధించలేడు.

పిల్లలు ఏ ఉత్సాహమూ లేక, ఎప్పుడూ విచారంగా ఉంటారు.
రాతిగుండెలుగల వాళ్లని
ఖరీదైన వైద్యులు సేవిస్తుంటారు
ఒంటరిగా, ఏకాకిగా
ఏ మినహాయింపులూ లేకుండా
ఏ ఒక్కడూ ఏదీ సాధించలేడు.
మీరు జాగ్రత్తగా వింటానంటే
నాకు తెలిసిన మాటొకటి చెబుతాను మీకు
తుఫాను మేఘాలు కమ్ముకుంటున్నాయి
పెనుగాలులు వీచే సూచనలు కనిపిస్తున్నాయి
మానవజాతి కష్టాల్లో చిక్కుకుంది
ఆ మూలుగులు నాకు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి.
