ముగ్గురు రాజులు… ఎడిలేడ్ ఏన్ ప్రాక్టర్, ఇంగ్లీషు కవయిత్రి
ఒక గొప్ప రాజ్యాన్ని అధీనంచేసుకుని తన ఆజ్ఞ
పాలించమంటున్న ఒక రాజుని నేను చూశాను;
అతని చేతి సంజ్ఞకి ప్రజలు చేతులు కట్టుకు నిలబడ్డారు
వాళ్ళ గొంతుకలమీద అతని ఉక్కు పాదం మోపబడి ఉంది,
రక్తపుటేరులలోనూ, అంత బాధలోనూ అతని పేరు మారుమోగింది
అతని కత్తి వాదర తళతళలు మరిన్ని ప్రశంసలు తెచ్చిపెట్టింది
నేను రెండవ రాజు తలెత్తడం చూసేను
అతని మాటలు ఎంతో మంచిగా, ఉదాత్తంగా, వివేకవంతంగా ఉన్నాయి;
ప్రశాంతమైన తన అధికారముద్ర అండతో
అతను ప్రజల మనసుల్నీ, ఆలోచనల్నీ చూరగొన్నాడు;
కొందరు ఈసడించేరు, కొందరు పొగిడేరు- చాలా మంది విన్నారు
కానీ, కొందరే అతని ఆజ్ఞ శిరసావహించేరు.
తర్వాత నేనొక మూడవ రాజుని చూసేను–
కేవలం ప్రేమా, అనుకంపలే ఆజ్ఞగా అతను పాలించేడు;
అంత గొప్పవారినీ, ఇంత చిన్నవారినీ మదిలో ఒక్కలా చూసేడు
(కానీ మనసులో) ఎంతో అసంతృప్తిగా ఉండేవాడు-
ప్రజలందరూ, పెద్ద ఎత్తున తిరుగుబాటు చేసి
అతన్ని ఆ రాజ్యంలోంచి తరిమేసారు.

Three Rulers
.
I saw a Ruler take his stand
And trample on a mighty land;
The People crouched before his beck,
His iron heel was on their neck,
His name shone bright through blood and pain,
His sword flashed back their praise again.
I saw another Ruler rise—
His words were noble, good, and wise;
With the calm scepter of his pen
He ruled the minds and thoughts of men;
Some scoffed, some praised—while many heard,
Only a few obeyed his word.
Another Ruler then I saw—
Love and sweet Pity were his law:
The greatest and the least had part
(Yet most the unhappy) in his heart—
The People, in a mighty band,
Rose up, and drove him from the land!

(30 October 1825 – 2 February 1864)
English Poet and Philanthropist.
(She worked prominently on behalf of unemployed women and the homeless, and was actively involved with feminist groups and journals. Procter never married. She became unhealthy, possibly due to her charity work, and died of tuberculosis at the age of 38.)
