వెదుకులాటలో, “అమ్మ”ను మించిన పూజనీయమైన మాటను
కనుగొనలేరని నేను భావిస్తున్నాను గనుక,
ఇష్టమైన ఆ పేరుతోనే నిన్ను ఎప్పటినుండో పిలుస్తున్నాను…
నువ్వు నాకు జన్మనిచ్చిన తల్లికంటే పూజనీయురాలవు,
నా మనోంతరాలములో సదా నిలుస్తావు, నా వర్జీనియను చైతన్యాన్ని
స్వేచ్ఛగా విడిచిపెట్టడానికి మృత్యువు నిను నియోగించింది.
నా తల్లి… కన్న తల్లి… నా చిన్నప్పుడే మరణించిన తల్లి
కేవలం నాకు మాత్రమే తల్లి; కానీ నువ్వు
నేను అమితంగా ప్రేమించే వ్యక్తికి మాతృమూర్తివి,

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,

None so devotional as that of “Mother,”
Therefore by that dear name I long have called you —
