ప్రేమతో తినేవాడు పండు ఎక్కడ వేలాడితే అక్కడే తినాలి,
కొమ్మలు రెల్లు పోచల్లా అలవోకగా వంగితే వంగనీ
పండు గడ్డిలో మెరుస్తూనో, చెట్టుకి వాడిపోతూనో కనిపించనీ,
ప్రేమతో తినాలనుకున్నవాడు తీసుకోగలిగింది
తనపొట్ట ఎంత పడితే అంత మాత్రమే.
జేబుల్లో ఏదీ దాచుకోకూడదు
పైమీద కండువాల్లోనూ పట్టుకోకూడదు
ఎన్నడూ పళ్ళు చెట్టునుండి కోసి
తట్టల్లోకీ తొట్టెల్లోకీ ఏరుకోకూడదు.
ప్రేమ లేని ఋతువు తెగులు పట్టిన తోటలో
ఖాళీ తోట్టెలతో నిండిన నేలమాళిగ.

Never, never may the fruit be plucked from the bough
And gathered into barrels.
He that would eat of love must eat it where it hangs.
Though the branches bend like reeds,
Though the ripe fruit splash in the grass or wrinkle on the tree,
