ఒక అందమైన ముఖం నా ప్రేమని ఉదాత్తం చేస్తుంది

అది నా మనసుని తుఛ్ఛమైన కోరికలనుండి మరల్చింది;

ఇపుడిక మరణాన్నీ లక్ష్య పెట్టను, పాపపు కోరికల్నీ;

నీ ముఖము పైలోకాలలోని సుఖాలకి మచ్చుతునక

సత్పురుషులంగీకరించే బ్రహ్మానందాన్ని బోధిస్తుంది.

ఆహా! స్వర్లోకపు కపోతానికి ప్రతిరూపంగా

నీ అంత గొప్ప వస్తువు సృష్టించిన ఆ భగవంతుడు

ఎంద సుందరుడూ, దయాళువూ అయిఉంటాడో గదా

భూలోక స్వర్గాలైన ఆ సుందరమైన కనులనుండి

నా దృష్టిని మరల్చుకోలేని నా అపరాధాన్ని మన్నించు

అవే మార్గదర్శనచేసే తారకలు, చాలా దయతో

నా అడుగులను ఊర్ధ్వలోకాలవైపు మళ్ళిస్తాయి;

ఒక వేళ నేను ఆ చూపుల అమిత కరుణలో మసలగలిగితే

ఆ దేవుని వింత వెలుగును ప్రేమించి, అక్కడ వసించినట్టే.

The might of one fair face sublimes my love,

For it hath weaned my heart from low desires;

Nor death I heed, nor purgatorial fires.

Thy beauty, antepast of joys above,

Instructs me in the bliss that saints approve;

For O, how good, how beautiful, must be

The God that made so good a thing as thee,

So fair an image of the heavenly Dove!

Forgive me if I cannot turn away

From those sweet eyes that are my earthly heaven,

For they are guiding stars, benignly given

To tempt my footsteps to the upward way;

And if I dwell too fondly in thy sight,

I live and love in God’s peculiar light.
