లండన్… ఎఫ్. ఎస్. ఫ్లింట్, ఇంగ్లీషు కవి
ఓ నా అందమైన లండను నగరమా!
ఆ సూర్యాస్తమయమో,
తెల్లని ఎత్తైన ఆ ‘బర్చి’ చెట్టు
ఆకుల పరదాలోంచి లీలగా మెరుస్తున్న
ఆకాశమో,
ఇక్కడి ప్రశాంతతో,
లే పచ్చికమీద కువకువలాడుతూ
గంతులేస్తున్న
పిట్టలగుంపో,
అన్ని వస్తువులమీదా సన్నగా పరుచుకుని
వాటిని కనుమరుగుచేస్తున్న చీకటో … కాదు
నా మనసు దోచుకుంటున్నది.
చంద్రబింబం అలా
మహావృక్షాల శిరసులమీంచి ఆకసానికి ప్రాకుతుంటే
ఆ నక్షత్రాల గుంపులో
ఆమెను* ఊహించుకుంటాను
వెళుతూ వెళుతూ
ఆ చంద్రబింబం మనుషులమీద
ప్రసరించే కాంతిని ఊహించుకుంటాను.
నా అందమైన లండను నగరమా!
వెన్నెల తళుకులద్దుతున్న
చిటారుకొమ్మలకు
ఎగబ్రాకుతాను
అక్కడ గాలితరగల చల్లదనానికి
నా మనసు చల్లబడుతుందేమోనని.

I
London, my beautiful,
It is not the sunset
Nor the pale green sky
Shimmering through the curtain
Of the silver birch,
Nor the quietness;
It is not the hopping
Of the little birds
Upon the lawn,
Nor the darkness
Stealing over all things
That moves me.
But as the moon creeps slowly
Over the tree-tops
Among the stars,
I think of her
And the glow her passing
Sheds on men.
London, my beautiful,
I will climb
Into the branches
To the moonlit tree-tops,
That my blood may be cooled
By the wind.
