“Aren’t you aware that darkness is my Siamese twin?”
On the eve of bidding adieu
I asked him among other things:
Why didn’t you enter the temple
How many times ever I had asked you?
With an ecstatic pleasure
transcending the realm of senses he whispered:
“Sh! It’s a secret, sir!”
“Enakku imgaye darsana maagum”
“I see the lord from here.”
In a gesture of obeisance he groped
For his seven eyes… on the flute.

Swathi Kumari Bandlamudi
Swati Kumari is a practicing Chartered Accountant at Hyderabad. A poetess of fine sensibilities and a good critic as well, she received Ismail Award for Poetry this year for her collection of Poems “Koneti Metlu” (Steps of the Temple Pond).
When I enquired what ignited or influenced her literary interests she answered rather modestly: ” Everything From classical to folk … like Telugu Satakams (A metrical composition of Hundred quatrains, with a refrain of various lengths in the last foot), to stage dramas, Srimad Bhagavatam by Bammera Potana, Manucaritra by Peddana, to cinema songs and light music compositions of AIR have kindled my interest on Telugu language; Kanyasulkam and Chenghis khan I read any number of times; Tagore’s Gitanjali, Tilak’s “Amrutam Kurisina Ratri” and SriSri’s “Khadgasrushti” introduced me to poetry; it was a pleasant experience to read Yandamuri during vacation; graduated to reading Kodavatiganti Kutumba Rao, Gopichand and Madhurantakam RajaRam later, but Buchibabu and Tripura are my favourites.”
